Rangers Swap Werek for Lindberg

The Rangers today announced that they have traded away point a game junior C Ethan Werek to the Phoenix Coyotes for Swedish League C Oscar Lindberg. Werek is actually a few months older than Linberg. Both will turn 20 later this year. Unless Linberg has grown, we're losing some size in the transaction. I don't really understand this deal right now, but perhaps Lindberg has grown or just dazzled them somewhere. He is a cousin of Jan Erixon who was a long time Ranger and has coached him in Sweden. If he had an Erixon vote and and a Hedberg vote, that might have made this happen. As it is, I'm not sure I see it. Both players are former second round picks. I had very high hopes for Werek. After further review, this one looks like we traded a top 6 type for yet another bottom 6 type. Lindberg, at least, is said to be good on faceoffs.

In other Ranger news, they finally DID, sign Roman Horak! The 19 year old broke out this year with over a point a game in the Western Hockey league. So that is unabashedly good news. Go Rangers!

Not sure what to make of it... other then he loves trading with Maloney. Does he even have the cell #'s of the other GM's?? Has to be more behind this one..

I wonder if Lindberg was one of the ones that got away last year. They said a C or two was taken before they took Thomas.

Nah, he was picked 17 places after Thomas.

The good thing is they are both 19, and it's not an age for youth swap that we have seen all too often in the past. Were they #47 and #52 overall?

I was thinking perhaps a sign-ability issue w Werek?

I think Werek might have made them mad, and I think Lindberg might have been someone they wanted last year.

Horak signing is good news indeed. I hope Stepan/McDognah change Krieder's mind!

I hope somebody does. We still have some time, though to get that worked out.
