Yanks Lose

Phil Hughes had no velo or curve and gave up 6 runs in his two innings of work. The Yanks also scored 6 runs off of Lackey, but were inefficient on O, and ended up losing 9-6. Colon and Logan gave up the other three runs. I don't know where velo goes, or in Phil's case, where curveballs go. I sincerely hope he gets his stuff back. The Sox were bound to win one game. Let's get em tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Called this. Hughes is not a starter at this level right now. Either send him to work with Nardi or move him to the pen and put Joba in the rotation.

Hughes has way too much talent to give up on him. It is only 2 starts into the season and he did win 18 games last year.

The list of pitchers who had talent but could never put it all together is a lot longer than the ones who did.

Hughes lacks the command and curveball he had in the minors to get major league hitters out. To make matters worse, he's refused to develop the changeup beyond experimentation stages, and instead overly relies on a cutter that is, at best, a fourth pitch.

No one is saying give up on him. At the same time, continuing to send him out there when he's guaranteed to spot the opposition six runs in two innings is asinine. I knew before the game started that he would get obliterated -- that should tell you something about where Hughes is right now.
