Giants are Eliminated
The Giants needed help today to make the playoffs and they didn't get it. It looks like they will have gone 10-6 with nothing to show for it. That would be there second non-playoff year in a row, and a window that was once wide open now seems cracked. Once again, they collapsed during crucial late season games. It will be interesting to see what the owners do vis a vis the coaching staff. Can wild inconsistency be tolerated? And what of a turnover problem that was allowed to linger - quite poisonously - all year long? Will anyone be held responsible, or will the Giants stay the course, and never find out what Eli, Nicks, Manningham and that others might look like in a less complex, more wide open offense? And what of Perry Fewell? At times it looked like he had the Giants defense back on track, and at other times - especially against WCO's - the defense looked like it did under Sheridan. Lots of questions, and the answers are bound to be interesting. They'll be drafting late. Here's to a positive and constructive offseason. Oh, and Happy New Year, everyone. This promises to be the best one yet.

The worst possible outcome. We're stuck with Coughlin, stuck with Gilbride, and Eli and the offensive talent will never reach their potential, while the defense will remain vulnerable to historic collapses, and the ST will always suck.
But for Rozelle's intervention, the Maras might be viewed like the Dolans, except that the Dolans know how to make money away from sports.
Does firing Quinn make everything better? I don't think so. Gilbride must go at the very least, Eli is good as he is despite his poor coaching not because of it.
Happy New Year to you and yours as well Phil!! As to all the readers of this great blog :)
Even in his presser, Coughlin is blaming other people, blaming injuries, yet he's the one who said injuries preventable when he was hired.
If I recall Rich he said injuries are merely a state of mind....
Michael
Yeah, I don't get the excuses that otherwise smart people make for him.
btw, Happy New Year to everyone.
Another frustrating year passes where we don't play to our talent level. Our Offensive line is showing signs of some age. Our defense plays only in spurts. And so many turnovers....and injuries. We are not going to make any major changes to our coaching staff and we have the CBA fight ahead. We can only hope Jerry Reese can pull a rabbit out of his hat.
This frustrated fan wishes all a happy New Year.
John Mara proves why you want owners who are self-made men because they have a better grasp of accountability. He's a chip off the old block, which may make him a fine man, but he's a bad owner.
I'm once again hoping that Gilbride gets a college job.
Amen to that Phil!!1 I don't get why our ownership will tolerate the suboptimal performances that we continually see. I think we all agree that Eli is as good as he is despite the coaching he has not because of it.. Imagine in a more wide open offense how he would excel even more. Count me in favor of bringing Plax back to the fold along w Nicks/Smith/Mario and Barden?? Now that would be cause for excitement!!
Phil do you expect us to be active in FA? Since Mara said we have to get an impact LB, I no longer think Reese can avoid it in FA.. I also liked Mara saying we needed an explosive return man that instills fear in other teams..
OT, great Knick win.
exactly Rich esp with the West Coast trip coming up HUGE!!
btw, I think the Giants will be aggressive in player acquisition (to the degree the labor situation permits it) because they want to make their decision to keep (and extend, probably for 2 more years, 3 total) Coughlin look good.
Rich of the names out there for LB whom would you be most interested in? Also what about KR/PR as Mara has identified them as top needs..
My biggest concern is the OL, RB and even TE. I think they can address LB through the draft and from within. Plus, which of their own FA do they keep and how much do they have to spend? As for KR, can Hixon come back?
