Down to the Deadline

The Yanks are still working hard on at least four players: Williams, Rutckyj, Dezse and Viramontes as tomorrow's deadline approaches. Things are apparently looking good on the first two but not on Dezse and Viramontes, a pair or projectable power righties. You can never guess what will happen at the deadline, though, so who knows what could change by then? Hopefully, I'll have time to take a look at the draft class as it looks now on Tuesday. Go Yanks!

Yanks Getting Ready to Announce Gumbs and Morton

This isn't really "news" since we've known it all sumer, but the Yanks will be announcing their deals with CF/SS Angelo Gumbs and RHP Taylor Morton in the next day or so. There will still be others, but these two have been done for awhile. Gumbs is a potential 5 tool athlete, while Morton has a power arm. We could see Morton really fly in development, because, while he HS he was also a catcher and that tired his legs out for pitching. He should get much more out of his legs going forward. The Gamel deal, which has also been done for awhile should leak soon. We're still also hoping for Dezse, Viramontes, Williams and Rutckyj and maybe a surprise or two by the deadline. Go Yanks!

UPDATE: These two are confirmed. They got both at great prices. Gumbs was 750K and Morton was 450K. Excellent work by the Yanks.

Segedin Flying to Tampa for a Physical

According to Lane Meyer and some rumors, Rob Segedin is flying to Tampa for his physical later today. That would probably mean a price has been agreed to but neither the Yanks or Segedin will acknowledge it till Comrade Bud does. The number could be below 500K which would be outstounding. It may be the economy or it may just be Yankee hardball, but the Yanks are getting great deals so far on these kids. Now wrap up the preps and Viramontes! Go Damon! Go Cash! Go Yanks!

UPDATE: Segedin is a Yankee. They supposedly got him for the bargain rate of 377,500. That's a steal for the hitting potential he represents. Well done, Yanks!

Yanks Sign Burawa

Sorry I'm away from home and not posting game results. Meanwhile the Yanks signing of Daniel Burawa, the St. John's closer has become official. Apparently they got him for 300K which isn't terrible. Burawa joins Kahnle and Nuding to give the Yanks 3 high upside collegiate relievers from this draft. I thought they could stop at two, but felt these three were the most likely of the signability college relievers. We're closing in on the deadline and still have several high upside preps that are unsigned as well as Segedin and Viramontes from the collegiate ranks. Go Yanks.

Yanks Sign Encinas

The Yanks have apparenlty signed their 6th round pick, High School RHP Gabe Encinas. The lanky two seam specialist is a portrait of projection. Sitting low 90's now, he's probably going to add velo as he's coached up and fills out. The Yanks reportedly got him for 300K, which, if true, has to be considered a great signing. This draft will, at least in the short term, be judged by the number of the HS kids they can get under contract, especially the prep pitchers. Go Yanks!

Yanks Sign Nuding

The Yanks added another power reliever to the system today (or recently) when they signed their 30th round pick Zach Nuding out of Weatherford JC for an overslot deal reportedly worth 265K. He is a monster with a 98 mph fastball and perhaps some potential to add. Nice work. Go Yanks!

AJ

I may not be online later, but feel free to vent here. I'm sorry for whatever's going on in me that's contributing to what I'm seeing as all of these lousy starts from AJ. Hopefully, the Yanks can rally. Go Yanks!
