Meetings in Tampa
So Cash and his advisors are all down in Tampa meeting with ownership to see what they can get done this offseason. I know they have paid lip service to the idea of cutting the budget, but I don't really see it happening this year. They're losing 52 homers between Damon and Matsui if they walk, and they also want a starter they can use in the post season. Then they may also bring Andy back. And then there's Aroldis Chapman. And they have to fill all of these items with the 30 or so million, so I'm taking the OVER.
I think they will trade for Roy Halladay to provide that other playoff starter. I'd guess it will be a package headed by Austin Jackson, that might also include major league parts. With the idea that's now being floated that Boston has cooled on the idea, I think it could happen in the next week or so. Then I think they will either sign Matt Holliday or trade for a young outfielder with some pop. I think they plan on replacing the homers between Holliday and Juan Miranda, and an extra month of ARod. I think they probably will sign Andy, but it will be an incentive deal. I also think they will sign Aroldis Chapman, but to a minor league deal that won't effect the luxury tax. Go Yanks!

I like your thinking Phil, and hope it happens!!!
We'll see. They could also come up with some great, off the radar stuff instead.
they usually do surprise us... Last year Tex was `under the radar' I think like you that Hal will approve the budget Cash requests/needs to accomplish his goals.
Tex wasn't that under the radar. Swisher was under the radar.
Swish was a steal, and I think his contribution was more in the clubhouse then on the field... Tex being on the radar I am sure Cash always had him in mind, but it was never made as public as CC until the end.
No, but we talked about it here a lot.
agreed we did talk about it here, the real source for all news related to our beloved NY sports teams :)
Its the Hallday season.
Phil, like Michael, I hope your ideas come true. Halladay and Holliday would make us scary good.
Halladay and Holliday season :)
Halladay would be so good for our young pitchers (including Burnett). He is a warrior. If the price is right, Cash won't blink.
When Hughes was dominating the minors, a bunch of people were comparing him to Halladay. So you put Halladay in there with Phil and we could end up with Halladay II.
Sure would like to have been at Mr. Steinbrenner's house today just listening.
Must have been the best atmosphere in years.
I live about 45 minutes away but nobody gave me an invite.
Yeah, but finally they're coming off a win. So many frustrating years between 26 and 27. And virtually all of that time we could have won with a few breaks.
If the Yankees trade Jackson, what would they do about the CF situation? I don't see Melky or Gardner as a long-term solution there.

I guess we would see. Abe Almonte will be in high A this year.
If we're doing a DH by rotation, I'd sooner trade Hughes in a deal for Halladay, and keep Jackson. I think he's underrated as a prospect, and I'd love to see another position player come from the farm system.

Like to keep Huhges and move Joba in a package for Halladay.
Joba is very inconsistent at times.
Joba's upside is higher, though. My main concern with Hughes is his lack of a legitimate third pitch.

I don't think we'll trade either of them.
