Left Field
Needed a new thread. We have heard Reed Johnson's name, Jermaine Dye's and Mark DeRosa's for the past week or so. Thankfully, the DeRosa ship is sailing to SF. None of these seem particularly Yankee-like. Sure, Johnson could work in a platoon with Gardner or Grandy, but what if someone gets hurt and he has to face righties? Yikes. Dye has a giant fork sticking out of his back. As long as that hole exists, I've got to believe it's there to be filled by Matt Holliday. The fit is just too perfect and the market price is too inviting. So, while the Giants end their season and go in search of some new assistant coaches, the Knicks try to trade Curry and Jeffries, and the Rangers try to find some consistency, we'll just wait on Holliday.

Lots going on with all our teams... I hope we get everything we want and then some.
Sounds like the Yanks are not pursuing Holliday. I think Crawford is a good player but he will be looking for the same money as Holliday. If the money is not available this year, then what changes for next year? It may be that Cash just likes Crawford more than Holliday. It looks like Reed Johnson or Brett Gardner will patrol the outfield to start the season.
What purpose would be served by the Yanks doing anything but denying interest in Holliday?
I don't think they think Crawford is better, cause he simply isn't.
I realize they could just be playing coy, but there seems to be emphasis every other day that they are not in on Holliday. I realize that they control what they want the press to know and I hope they are still positioning to make a play for him, but my gut says they will not. We will see.
Leaks are generally designed for a purpose in Yankee land.
Mike F. says Bay to the Mets pending physical, probably TBA next week.
