18M?

Wow, so Buster Olney is reporting that Scott Boras is doubling back to talk to teams about Matt Holliday, the opening price for one team had an AAV of 18M. You better be ready to pounce, Cash! Go Yanks!

18MM? Not from Cashman.

That's the new opening number. He's worth more than that.

If that number is from a non-contender then we should offer a slightly less AAV.

We just need to get creative and get something done here.

As I have said all along, I don't think the Yankees will sign Holliday, but I really, really want to be wrong.

Bonuses don't count against payroll, correct?

They don't seem to, otherwise I would see no point to them.

"Payroll figures are for 40-man rosters and include salaries and prorated shares of signing bonuses, earned incentive bonuses, non-cash compensation, buyouts of unexercised options and cash transactions, such as money included in trades. In some cases, parts of salaries that are deferred are discounted to reflect present-day values."

If we go cheap in Left, I hope we go big on the farm.

Chapman will sign with someone by thurday as he stands to lose millions if he signs in 2010 due to taxea.

5 years/25MM?

The article I read on ESPN said the paperwork for a tax exemption on the bonus couldn't be completed at this point, but who knows?

The Cardinals have supposedly offered Holliday eight years, $16 million per.

I say counter that with six years and $18 million per, and see if he really wants to be a Yankee.

There were Orioles rumors a few weeks ago. They're gonna be very good soon with all that young talent in the OF and on the way.
