Gaborik!

Apparently, the Rangers have finally gotten their man. According to TSN the Rangers have landed Marian Gaborik for 5 years, in what I believe is an incentive laden deal. They wanted goals and he brings them! Though he's had some injuries, he was also in an unhappy situation in Minnesota, and was rumored to want to play for the Rangers. Now he will. What's more, he can really mentor Anisimov and Grachev as they joing the big club. Nice move, Rangers!

No question he has upside potential, plus I think he will flourish more in Torts system then he did in Minny.

From your post I take it you are in favor of the move, let's hope it is incentive laden. I was vocal against not wanting him b/c of the injury history but wont deny his talent.

Basically it was Gomez for Higgins and Gaborik.

I hope it's incentive laden. We'll see, but if he's healthy he's one of the best players in the league, and we'll be able to start scoring with the big boys again.

Neil with Ottawa correction

No question he is an elite player. I just dont think Drury is the center that will be feeding him... I still sense that one of our infamous D-man will be shipped out for a playmaking center.

He doesn't need anyone really feeding him and could end up on a line with Dubi or even Anisimov if there's chemistry with either C.

I think we should let Zherdev walk now and use the funds elsewhere...

So do I!

No need for him, perhaps he and Ros can be packaged together for something of use, or even just to provide cap relief. Even with Gaborik on board we still have more moves on the way.

I know, but this was the franchise move.

Yes this was the franchise move without question. Gomez for Gaborik/Higgins works for me.

and the kid defender!

That could prove to be the under-rated part of the deal.

Did we really get 4 players for Gomez, and one was an UFA? Someone had mentioned it but I have not seen it.

yeah, we got the rights to a defenseman that we blew off.

ahh thank you Phil. All in all not a terrible day for our Rangers, with more to come!!

Gaborik is an elite talent and for that I am excited. I am reading more reports perhaps he was mis-diagnosed with his injuries? If so then I will soften my stance. I think we got a better bargain then we would have if we signed Hossa(which is a bad deal for the Hawks) and Havlat.

He was misdiagnosed. They thought a hip was a groin and wasted a ton of time.

That would explain why he was out with the same injury more then once. I think he will become a real star in this town.

At 6:39 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

yup, he's come to NYC to be a star and make stars out of some others.

The fans are really going to take to him for sure. Now the Brashear signing makes more sense.

I agree with you that he will make others around him better.

Interesting to see where we go next, though it wont be on a Gaborik level I do think it will be of significance.

NHL network says it's 5/32.5 not 5/37.5.
