Gomez Gone!
Breaking News: The Rangers have apparently traded their worst deal, Scott Gomez to the Montreal Canadiens for winger Chris Higgins. I'm sure we'll be learning more on this, but that's a big move.
UPDATE: This is a much better deal than it even appeared at first blush. The Rangers not only got rid of Gomez's brutal deal and picked up RFA Higgins who is coming off a down year, but they also go Montreal to cough up Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Vilatenko, two for Montreal's best defensive prospects. McDonagh especially has a nice upside and was the 12th overall pick in the 2007 draft. This is really looking like the first great deal of the Sather era. Now, dump more contracts! Go Rangers!

the first domino has fallen, more to come
What do you think is gonna happen? Are we cleaning house?
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Chris Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forwards Scott Gomez and Tom Pyatt, and defenseman Mike Busto.
When Sather said they have to make room for kids he meant it. They are going to try and clean as much as possible. Rosz is the next on the list to go..
This is pretty interestin, we better not put ourselves back in cap hell.
lohud has some interesting quotes from Sather
Heatley likely wont be the only move we make... I just hope that Dubi or Artie are NOT in the deal and that Zherdev and Rosz are. It sounds more like we are getting him. Sather better not ruin the first good move he has made in 10 years
Yeah, if it's Rozy, Zherdev and Sangs, we're gonna be partying!
In one felt swoop Sather will erase two mistakes just like that. Redden will be the third as I don't see him long for this team. Despite denials I have heard that Burke was interested in him, but only of Dubi or Cally were part of the deal and Slats said no thank you.
Zip says he does not think Heatley tonight, but who knows for sure... Is the Sather conf call anywhere online?
Not yet.
was watching sportscenter and Bucher said that McGrady for Eddy Curry could possibly happen.
I cannot wait to hear Sather.
According to Gross, Sather said we could make another trade tonight.
very interesting One thing I had not heard that was mentioned on dump/chase was St.Louis have you heard anything on that?
Just in passing. A deal tonight would be Heatley cause of the 4M deadline tomorrow.
Given your choice who would you prefer? Heatley or St.Louis?
Heatley cause it would remove Rozy.
Addition by subtraction, as you know I have no love for him. I would have to agree with you. Rozy gone really frees up another spot on D
Looks like we won't be trading for Heatley tonight. The guy at LoHud said he hear wrong. I wonder how we can get rid of Rozy now.
I still think in any big trade for a fwd Rosz will be moved. I want NO part of Gaborik..
Heatley officially to Oilers. Good thing Sather did not capitulate to their demands.
That said I still maintain we are far from finished, and Rosz and or Redden will not be here much longer.
Yup, we just need to keep the smart streak going which started with grabbing Gilroy.
Whatever Sather has been eating for breakfast lately he needs to continue. Mara/Morris/Betts/Sjo/Antropov all gone, and I think Orr is toast too.
Especially considering we got D-men in the deal from Montreal, and the depth we have, our D will have plenty more youth and potential upside then the present configuration.
Don't forget Hekkinen, either.
excellent point Phil, which only furthers my belief that what I am hearing is that our D will have a totally new look come opening night.
That deal is not done...Heatley has rejected it
Heatley rejected??? Had not seen that so I guess Ottawa is stuck paying the 4 mil and he is likely to stay.
Are you hearing anything else the Rangers may be in on Dan?
st.louis
Interesting hopefully none of the core kids would be involved.
I know it wont happen but the Sedin twins would solve two problems really quickly.
Heatley killed the Oiler deal. Way to play hardball, Ottawa.
