Camp Tort

Ranger Coach John Tortorella was clearly still mad about the way the Rangers ended their season as he took charge of his first development camp today. Torts essentially punished the young prospects and ten non-Ranger invitees for the failures of Drury, Gomez, Redden and Co. First he put broke them up into groups for skates. Then had a 1:15 minute skate for all 26 players in attendance and in about 45 minutes he's making them all run 3 miles. Torts told the press that the Rangers were "soft" mentally, and it seems he is aiming to toughen them up, starting with the new kids. Structurally, Torts stayed above the ice with Shoeny and Madden, and Adam Graves, Ken Gernander and the rest of the `Pack coaches ran the drills. It should be a really interesting week, cause guys like Michael Del Zotto and Evgeny Grachev can start making their cases for making this year's team.

Of course, later this week NHL FA opens but with the Rangers as tight against the cap as they currently are it will be interesting to see what they can do, if anything, to create cap room and add scoring. Go Rangers!

Who do you think?

Heatley is the top/most realistic target. McKenzie says its between us and Edmonton. I know Slats is trying to move out salary and Betts/Freddie leaving are direct Tort moves. Since Sunday I have been hearing us linked more to Heatley then prior with Ros going back. One thing I am not liking is we may have to give up a piece of youth, and I just hope its not one of the core.

I hope so, too.

Especially with the youth movement we seem to be undertaking. I think the mentions of us and St.Louis are just that and unfounded. No one on the FA market really excites the Rangers especially with Hossa likely staying put. The trade route is how we will add our forward. You hearing anything on Heatley? Sather has a Boyle like thirst for him, but the question is whether he or Murray will cave in.

I haven't heard anything. It'll be a big week with Yankee IFA, Knick and Ranger FA all starting.

It sure will be a good week, in many aspects one of the more exciting times of the sports year (free-agency).

You expecting big things from Yanks/Knicks?

From the Yanks, yes. From the Knicks not so much.

btw, if Heatley is gonna get traded, it should be tomorrow, cause the 4M is owed on Wednesday.

I agree with that. It's gonna be how badly Murray and ownership want to get rid of him, because they do not want to pay the $4m. Ottawa has to realize they are not going to get the value they want, and they will have to settle for less or be stuck paying.
