Rest in Peace, BVP

Brad Van Pelt, one of the greatest linebackers in Giants history is dead today at 57. BVP played right before they started giving number ranges for position groups, so he ended up being #10 right after Fran Tarkenton. Van Pelt played a hybrid safety role at Michigan State, but the Giants made him a linebacker and though he was skinny for the position, he made lots of Pro Bowls. Moving on in 1983, BVP missed the Super Bowl years, but he was big part of restoring Giant credibilty along with Harry Carson and Brian Kelley and he will be remembered.

That linebacking group was the early beginnings of bringing great defense back to the NYG that we would enjoy through the second half of 1980 and the first half of 1990. Defense like we hadn't seen since the early 60's. Seems like Van Pelt just finished his career. RIP BVP.
