Three More Yankee Power Prospects

Here are three more power hitting prospects in the Yankee system. These guys are all still teenagers, but have shown significant pop and promise in the DSL, Spring training, and in prospects games.

*Carlos Urena (pictured) 17, Carlos is a centerfielder with all 5 tools. After putting on a power show in Spring training, the 2006 IFA signing was sent back over to the DSL, where he was demoted from Yankees1 to Yankees2. Apparently he had some growing up issues and didn't deal well with playing back home instead of in Florida. But he's also supposed to be a very good kid that they are not worried about. We'll probably see him in the FSL in `08 as an 18 year old.

*Alberto Acosta 17, Alberto is a corner OF who will also be getting work at 1B to make sure he plays everday. Acosta was also a 2006 IFA signing who was considered very raw, but possesses the kind of power that Jesus Montero has. Acosta though surprised the organization this year by not being as raw as believed, and showing a willingness to use all fields. He too could be in FSL in 2008 as an 18 year old.

*Kelvin De Leon 16, Kelvin is also a centerfielder with all 5 tools and was the Yanks top signind in 2007 IFA. Kelvin is a superb athlete with a great work ethic. Like Carlos Urena, he has drawn some comparisons to Vlad Guerrero, and those sorts of comps are always encouraging. He may even play in the FSL as a 17 year old (a la Tabata) next year.

We'll probably have three more tomorrow, though these players are so spread out in age and leagues, it's tough finding proper groupings for them.
