Death Proof (Dimension, 2007) Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Kurt Russell and chicks! Not enough of you people went to see Grindhouse when it was out and that had three sort of negative effects: first, it punished talent by hurting the Hollywood market for cool material; and second, it did you all out of a good time at the theater; and finally, it made the marketing folks split up Death Proof and Robert Rodriguez's equally representative Planet Terror, for DVD distribution, which means we will have to first buy them separately, then cope with a temptiong new offer around Christmas that will contain both in one package. I opted to pick up Death Proof today. It lists at $28, but Virgin and I would assume other dealers, have nice priced it at $19.99. So do yourselve a favor, now that you sat around on your asses while it was in the theaters: go and get it!

Special Note: QT directed his own photography here and the look he was able to capture was a perfect mix on that ineffable AIP cinematography style of the `70's, and the warmer tones long lenses can bring. Really nice detail!
