The Giants Are Down to 52
The Giants today got their roster down to 52 by cutting 21 players, putting bad safety Will Demps on IR and trading Ryan Grant to the Green Bay Packers for an undisclosed pick. For the time being Lawrence Tynes is the kicker. It was nice to see Jerry Reese work the phones and get a draft pick for Grant who came in as an undrafted FA two year ago. Ernie never made the extra effort. The biggest surprise on the roster seems to be S Craig Dahl, who looked bad early in the preseason but was really making progress as the preseason closed. He is a very good athlete and the kind of kid that it's good to take a chance on. The reason they cut to 52 and not 53 is because Strahan will be joining them Monday. Remember, the roster has been fluid under TC, so there could still be changes, and a Practice Squad will be signed before the Dallas game.
UPDATE: The Giants have claimed CB Dovonte Edwards off waivers from the Vikings and G Kevin Boothe off waivers from the Raiders. Further, kicker Dave Rayner is scheduled to visit as soon as tonight. E.J. Underwood and Marquise Gunn have cleared waivers and been added to the psquad. No corresponding cuts have been announced to make room for the claimed players. Expect a few more moves.
FURTHER UPDATE: G Zach Piller was cut to make room for the claims. That puts us at 53. Another player will have to go when Strahan shows up. WR Brandon London and G Matt Lentz were also added to the p-squad.

I wonder if we make a run at Rayner from GB. Tynes is very underwhelming.
TC mentioned that they would be looking at the waiver wire, my guess is that the roster we have at this moment will be different come next Sunday night.
