Not So Fast

There are disconcerting rumors this morning that the Giants are in negotiations with slow Colt running back Dominic Rhodes. There are some red flags on this player. First, his regular season YPC was 3.0 in 2005 and 3.4 in 2006. That's the kind of performance you can find in a street free agent who doesn't need a multi-year contract. There seems also to be this idea that he's some kind of power back, since he ran hard in the playoffs. The man is 5' 9", 203. That's not a power back. What that should be is a fast back, and Dominic isn't. This would not be a strong move for the Giants.

I hope Rhodes is being used as a smoke screen. I prefer Willis.

I don't think he's a smokescreen. But the good news is that he and the Giants are pretty far apart.

its a joke if we sign rhodes

At 8:07 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

rumors going around that Clements Signed with 49ers

At 8:07 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

damn if that's true.

At 8:08 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is good news as he is a very very poor man's version of Jacobs. We need someone with speed and elusiveness ie Willis.

At 8:09 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

A poor man's version of Jacobs would still be bigger than Rhodes.

good point on Rhodes. Damn on Clements if that is true

I don't want Roderick Hood

At 8:13 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

nor do I.

At 8:15 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Olivie Mughelli would be a nice pick up at FB.

At 8:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I would not mind Leonard Davis for the O-Line.

At 8:19 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Leonard Davis would be a very good pick-up. He'd make us an even better runblocking team, and that would help replace some of the production we lost when Tiki quit.

At 8:20 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I really hope the Clements rumors turn out to be just that rumors. Come on Reese step it up!!!!

At 8:21 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Are we seriously in the Davis sweepstakes? You cant teach size and strength and Davis would certainly upgrade the run blocking as you mentioned

At 8:24 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I assume we are. I really do believe the people who told me were trying to start things off with a bang. I believe we have been in on the big players.

If we make two splashes, I want them to be Davis and Bunta-Cain. That's it in FA as far as I'm concerned right now.

At 8:47 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I sure hope we are in on the big players and land one or two of them. I would prefer Davis and Clements myself if they are to be had.

At 9:15 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Garafolo says Hood visiting the Cards, I hope he signs there. Come on Reese get us Davis,Clements or Banta-Cain!!

At 9:54 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

This is interesting so far, but the fa market seems surprisingly cautious given the deals that were negotiated leading up to it and the amount of cap room most teams have. I think they are committed to not overpaying for the mediocre players who comprise the majority of targets. Let's see how long that lasts.

At 10:11 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I really hope they don't overpay either. Worst case scenario you have unused cap dollars. I am still holding out hope that those big splashes will occur

At 10:13 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

there's a report that we are currently in the mix for Leonard Davis and Tully Banta-Cain - Fatman's Delight! I'd be pretty stoked with that take, though it would crowd the left side of our OL for the long term.

At 10:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like that report!!!! That is one problem I will be glad to have is over-crowded on the line

At 11:50 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

looks like we are out of it on Davis, a maybe still on Banta-Cain, a disgusting yes on Rhodes, and Hood is gonna be offered too much so we're out of that.

At 11:51 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Someone offer more on Davis

At 12:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

not looking good. Why is it we can not get the premier guy here? This takes some wind out of the sails...

At 12:06 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope Vacchiano is wrong

At 12:16 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

apparently, we have the top offer, and are the only ones offering a chance to play OLT, and yet, he would need us to up our top offer to even consider a visit.

At 12:25 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

jeeze someone doesnt want to play for Tom

At 12:28 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

does this mean we are totally out of it on Davis or some hope exists

At 12:34 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Although the Giants have the top offer out to Leonard Davis, and are the only team offering him a chance to stay at LT, he's in Dallas meeting with the Cowboys right now.

At 12:36 PM, Blogger Rich said...

It's likely the Coughlin factor.

At 12:37 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

We'll see. But Reese has got to be able to overcome that.

At 12:41 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

In Reese We Trust!!!! Do what it takes to bring Leonard on board, as well as Banta-Cain.

At 12:42 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I dunno, Reese is disappointing me right now...

At 1:01 PM, Blogger Rich said...

If they can't get their top choices, just keep the cap space for the post-Coughlin era. Don't settle.

At 1:02 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

agreed, but it's pretty bad when you are a New York team and can't get your targets to even visit.

At 2:16 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope Reese can turn things around this weekend..

At 2:17 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It would be nice to see him get things moving.

At 2:31 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It really begs the question did the owners fully think out the implications of keeping Coughlin?

We used to be a proud organization now it seems like players shy away.

At this point I don't care what it takes Reese get us Davis and Cain. I know Clements is a pipe dream at this point.

I really hope he does not think that bringing in Rhodes and other B level players and the draft is going to change anything on this team.

As posted earlier if you have to save the cap room for the post TC era, b/c at this juncture I don't see how we will be improved.

I hope things are busy at the stadium tonight with visits being scheduled and steaks being eaten

At 2:41 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

They were supposedly busy last night, but I take it, it was just the Mara grandchildren or something.

At 2:49 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have low expectations going into this weekend, with the hopes I will be pleasantly surprised.

At 2:50 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'm somewhat sickened. It felt like the Giants had a lot of energy coming into FA...

At 3:36 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Clayton just said on Sportscenter that we are still interested in McGahee, and that Rhodes visited today. He also stated we are interested in Corey Dillon, and that Cato June is very possible to be a Giant

At 3:38 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

7yrs, 49.5 total/17 mil guaranteed - Steinbach to CLV

Dockery to BUF, 7 yrs, 49 total/16 mil guaranteed

says Davis is on a plane to DC, come on Reese swoop in somehow!!!!!!

At 3:45 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dillon?

The playoffs last year made him look old...Can there be much left?

At 4:36 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

8 Years-80 Million For Clements...Leanord Davis coming tomorrow....Giants Very Interested in Joey Porter

At 4:37 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It's good to know Davis will visit. Even if he's not the best fit, I want the Giants to be able to get the players they WANT TO LOOK AT to at least come in and visit.

At 4:42 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Porter would be huge

At 4:43 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Porter or Banta-Cain would be great on the combo-blitzes we're likely to run.

At 5:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Things are looking a little better now then a few hrs ago
