My Greatest 100 (or so) Albums...
Chronicle(Fantasy 1976) Creedence Clearwater Revival. John Fogerty was like a No-Cal version of Brian Wilson in a lot of ways. And no, I don't frame everything in terms of Brian Wilson or his work. But this is just true. Fogerty was the singer, songwriter and rockin' guitarist for one of the greatest bands ever. In the late sixties when a lot of bands were getting psychedelic, Creedence was getting down. You know the songs, "Fortunate Son", "Travellin' Band", "Down On the Corner", "Who'll Stop the Rain?" They were churning out hits like Ichiro on astroturf. As with the Beach Boys, internal conflicts, and record company issues cut them off in their primes, but unlike the Beach Boys, Creedence just couldn't stick together. It was tragic. This album captures them at their hit making height, and no one ever really got higher.
