TJ Surgery for Christian Garcia?
When power pitcher Chris Garcia left the HBL early, many of us thought it might have been his maturity issues cropping up again. Now, we are hearing it's his elbow, and TJ surgery as well as rehab could be in the cards for him. This is awful news for the high ceiling kid and we can only wish him a speedy and complete recovery. If he does get the surgery, his rehab schedule should coincide pretty closely with Mark Melancon's. Hopefully, Melancon's bulldog attitude will rub off on the kid. It would be a tragedy if Garcia couldn't reach his top of the rotation potential.

that sucks
funny how tommy john has become so rountine. some pitchers even say it makes them throw harder

Yeah, but Sean Henn never got his best fastball back. This was gonna be a big year for CG if he could stay healthy. He probably could have gone from High A to AA, and had a shot next year in camp.
i didn't mean to imply i was happy about it
just not the death sentence it was years ago
as baseball prospectus says, there is no such thing as a pitching prospect. that's why you need quantity

That's why it's great the the Yanks have stockpiled pitching prospects over the last 3 years. Between Melancon and Garcia, we have a possible closer and a possible ace on the DL next year, and because of Sanchez, Joba and Whelan, it doesn't really mess up the conga line. We can afford to really rehab Melancon and Garcia.
It's also why Nardi should not have to defend himself for keeping Hughes pitch count low

Ever since Cashmoney Green whacked Billy Masse, I don't think Nardi's gonna hear any more crap about his pitching protocol.
We can only hope Garcia comes back as well as past TJ guys have (ie. Mariano)...

Yeah, he's an immature kid and he better take his rehab seriously. I hope Melancon stays on him.
How he rehabs will really show how bad he wants to be the pitcher that he can be. Will be interesting to see.
I hope he doesn't blow it. He has absolutely great stuff and a real power pitcher's body.
Dr. Jobe, the orthopedic surgeon who originated ulnar ligament reconstruction surgery, has said that pitchers generally don't gain velocity after the procedure. It's his opinion that because the injury is usually chronic, pitchers tend to lose velocity as they compensate for the pain that they experience, and then they sometimes regain it subsequent to the surgery.
