My Greatest 100 (or so) Albums...

The Spinners (1972) was a fantastic record. The Spinners had been sort of lesser lights during the glory days of Motown, but in the early `70's they left Hitsville, USA and moved to Philly, where a smooth soul sound was developing. In Philly, they teamed with producer Thom Bell and made some really important music. Whether or not you know their names, you know the falsetto of Henry Farmbrough, the bass of Perivs Jackson, and the sensational leads of the late Phillipe "Soul" Wynne. Well, this was their breakout album and contains the hits "Could It be I'm Falling in Love", "I'll be Around," and "One of a Kind (Love Affair)." Ultimately, the Spinners were to the `70's what the Temptations had been to the `60's: the very best vocal group in the world. Give it a listen.
