What if Thibodeau is Coughlin?

When Tom Coughlin took over the Giants for the 2004 season, fans were full of the same questions we now ask about Tom Thibodeau. Coughlin was an older coach, who had won a ring as an assistant with the 1990 Giants, but had been close with no cigars during his long tenure in Jacksonville. Now he's a two time Super Bowl champion and a no-doubt Hall of Famer. Thibs is an older coach, who went to the finals as a Knicks assistant and won a ring with Celtics.  In previous stops at Chicago and Minnesota, he's been close but no cigars.  Like Coughlin, Thibs lives his sport 24/7.

A few weeks ago, the Daily News intevied Rick Pitino and Brian Scalabrine about Thibodeau and they both compared him to Belichick. They mostly did so because of his attention to detail, but another way that Thibodeau is similar to Belichick is the way in which, as an assistant, he could design Chanmpionshp defennses - as Little Bill did for the Giants and Thibs did for the Celtics.

So, while, I would have preferred Will Hardy or Jamal Mosley, if Thibs is Coughlin, we'll all be thrilled.
