Giants Take Eli Apple at 10

After seeing their top 3 targets disappear - two by virtue of teams leapfrogging them the Giants were left to pick from injured, disgraced and red chip players.  The move to make was a trade down, but who knows what was available.   Apple should have been available after a trade down.  I happen to like him a lot, but not at 10.  He's the kind of big, physical CB that the Giants have done well with over the years.  Nice enough player, but just an awful start to the draft for the Giants.   Leapt over twice!!

UPDATE:  If the Giants can go on to fix the OL, this could still work out beautifully for the GMen.  Eli is just 20 years old, but some of the metrics services had him as the best DB in the draft.  That augers upside, and in a few years, he could be a great Giant.

I don't doubt his upside, I doubt the GM's ability to think tactically.

Couldn't agree more with LINJ -- They Giants claim they played out every scenario possible, which they clearly didn't based on Reese's inaction last night.

I read earlier that Reese has never ONCE traded back, ever -- if there ever was a time to do so, last night was it. They should have had a contingency plan in place should there top of the board go off before their 10th pick.

I also don't think marijuana should take a player off of your board.

Tunsil should have been the pick. Come TC, no one will care about the video. Should have used the pick to obtain a perennial pro bowler who would have solidified our OL for the next decade.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Reese should not have been left in charge of such a critical offseason.

They really need to fix the OL, but Apple could be a perennial pro bowler, too.

I could see a 2nd round trade up so Reese can say they had two firsts.

The Jets reportedly tried to trade up for Tunsil.

I saw this at ESPN:
HACKENBERG BEST FIT FOR GIANTS AT 40
Our Insiders take a look at how tonight's Round 2 should play out if every team was drafting purely for best fit. They think New York should draft QB Christian Hackenberg, who could be slowly groomed to eventually replace Eli Manning

__

This is absurd. It was dumb to trade up for Nassib given their holes at the time. They have more holes now and they are supposed burn a 2nd for a developmental QB? In fact, given how they have burned picks, why not trade a 4th to get Conklin or Floyd if they liked them so much? (and clearly they did).

It would sort of be a fulfilling prophesy because it would increase the chances that Eli would get hurt.

Schefter is tweeting that Andrews says Jack doesn't need microfracture surgery, but I think (maybe I'm wrong) that leaves unanswered how much more likely is he to need it than a random draft prospect.
