Yanks: Chapman Gets 30 Games

So Aroldis Chapman got 30 games and he is not appealing, because the 30 games do not prevent him from filing for free agency come November.  So, at least this isn't hanging over their heads any more, and it should give the kids like Lindberg and Pazos chances to work the 7th, in Girardi's atavistic system.  So it looks like MLB is going to suspend even when there are no charges.  And in these types of cases that's probably fine.

No problem with that. He behaved in a way unbecoming of a professional. He gets a month off but still hits free agency.

We can thank our good friend Roger Gooddell for this. His incompetence in handling these matters and backlash it created made it impossible for Manfred to set a precedent that wasn't a harsh punishment.

The Yankees don't get them for the price they paid unless there was an underlying issue. So but for the event, he's not Yankee.

Beyond that, we don't know the facts. I don't believe anybody takes 30 games without some underlying degree of fault, whether or not facts could have ever been made out, had there been people willing to testify, that a crime had been committed.

So think it's reasonable to assume this is an equitable solution under the circumstances.

True. Goodell's blunders in this area were so unbelievable MLB really didn't have a choice even with the absence of hard evidence Chapman hurt his girlfriend.

If you want to view it in football terms, he got one more game than Rice. Is that really that harsh if the worst construction of the facts turned out to be the actual facts?

Again, that's my point, we don't know the facts.

I'd sign up for this lineup:

I'll admit it, I never heard of Denorfia. Google tells me he is 34; that's exactly what they like. I can't wait to see what younger player he could block

Denorfia is on a minor league deal. I wouldn't worry too much about him blocking anyone.

Also Denorfia's deal has a March opt out.

I get that. I just don't see the point of bringing in old players that aren't that good.

Severino's command issues were all out of the stretch.

Some people can talk all they want about pitching, or Ellsbury and Gardner, or the unsupportable idea that a bullpen trumps (ew sorry!) everything, but last season turned on Teix and A-Rod's production, and imo, this season probably will as well.

It means little, but from the box score, Mitchell and Kaprielian appeared to pitch well.

Kap was 94-96 so that's great news. The Velo uptick is almost a year old, and has been there since last Spring, through pro ball, through instructs, through Captains Camp and now.

Mitchell has always had great stuff, so any performance this early should be encouraging.

Started to get excited about the prospect of seeing Kap this season. Mitchell, too (hopefully as a starter).

The more one sees Mateo, the more it becomes apparent that a trade for Kimbrel could have been epically bad.

I know it's off topic, Charles Johnson visiting tomorrow.. Very interested to see what haul Reese brings back starting Monday.. Lawyer, Phil any preferences?

I would be reticent to give Johnson or Williams more than one year, effectively, so hardly any dead money if waived after a year.
