Knicks After Nemanja Bjelica?

Another Knick target appears to be Serbian star Nemanja Bjelica.   On tape, this cat is and all around player who can shoot, pass, dribble, rebound and play D.   In other words, go get him Knicks!   Currently, Bjelica's rights are controlled by the cap-strapped Timberwolves, so Phil should be able to work out something.   Here' hoping it's in the 6-7M range.  That would allow the Knicks to play him at forward opposite Melo, and spend 20-21M or more if it can be gathered on just their C and 2.

Idk what we can offer him but I would love him more than afflalo-- also saw that Gilliam signed for 550k -- 450 counts against our cap

I don't want Affalo either. He's a journeyman whose best days are probably behind him.

Again, if Melo is unhappy, he should either be able to: convince a top FA to sign with the NYK in order to play with massive talent like himself; have his agent find a trading partner that would offer assets to actually improve the Knicks long-term without imposing negative cap consequences; or offer to rescind his contract and become a FA.

Yeah, we can't commit years to bandages right now. We have to collect PIECES. Affalo doesn't feel like a piece.

No to Affalo. Past his prime, has not played well last couple of seasons.

Get me Kuostas (spelling) for the 5. Guy is so under-rated. Sign Lopez for his backup. Those 2 should cost less combined then Monroe, but will paly better "D" and rebound just as well, if not better.

Still need a wing man. Carroll from the Hawks is the guy I want, but not interested in him if it's at $10 million+.

Bjelica should be the wing man.

I think we're going to see a lot of players sign 3 year deals with 2 being guaranteed and a 3rd a player option --- everyone seems to want to cash in on the new tv revenue deal --- i also think short term deals favor the knicks too.

Ideally, I want Aldridge/Jordan but I can live with Monroe -- I want either Matthews or Green for the 2/3 spot.

I don't think Aldridge is coming here.

I want Jordan.

I would save the rest of the money.

Oh and say that admitting that I know nothing about Bjelica.

Lawyer;

Most guys around here know nothing about him. He was an MVP in his league though, so that makes him an "exciting" prospect.

Thank you.

I don't want West either . The guy is way to old. Go Euro !!

What we don't know is what they would do if their first choices aren't interested.

To me, it would be an indication that Melo's value is virtually negative.

To me, most FA's out there look at Melo as a volume shooter. He will make himself the #1 option. Ergo, why would a LeMarcus Aldridge or someone of that ilk want to come here?

Maybe MBN, BUT:

Melo's ability to attract potential free agents is a major reason why they re-signed him, right?

(iow, the supposed common wisdom that you need a superstar to attract another superstar)

Along with the absence of a draft pick due to the unfathomably stupid Grunwald decision not to demand at least top 5 lottery protection of the 2016 1st.

This is the second time Bjelica has come up. He was drafted in the second round in ten and was talked about as a stash candidate. He has gotten better since then and there's plent of tape on him on the internet.

And, yes, let's see what Melo can do.

More power for Melo?

The new MSG president is a former CAA executive.

Anthony Davis locked up for 5 years $145m.

Talk about a major contract.

And, AD will be 29 when that contract ends, and can get another one. No one can predict the economics of the NBA in 2012, but I have little doubt that AD will get another 5 year deal at more $$$ then the $145 he signed for now.

There was a blurb on the internet that the Frenchman center we drafted late in the 2014 draft, with the #57 pick purchased from the Pacers, will play in the Summer League starting next week.

I think I also saw it in the NY Post.

Big bucks for one of the best young players in the NBA is fine.

Greg Monroe...

Toronto Raptors

After a solid season with the Hawks, DeMarre Carroll has signed a long-term deal with the Toronto Raptors.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs re-signed Danny Green and traded Tiago Splitter to the Hawks to clear space for . LaMarcus Aldridge.

Los Angeles Lakers

According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers did not impress Aldridge in their meeting last night.

If Demarre Carol is getting 15mil per, I have no problem paying Monroe 15mil then.

At 11:33 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

The money is suboptimal, but it's more that the player doesn't provide interior defense, and given their current personnel, that only adds to a glaring deficiency.

I will acknowledge, however, that the Knicks may or may not be an attractive destination for free agents.

You pretty much have to be over 50 to remember true championship glory, other than the championship tease of the Ewing years given Jordan and Olajuwon's dominance (and the failure of successive management to ever surround Ewing with another star in his prime while Ewing was in his prime).

So if Melo's presence isn't sufficient to compensate for their present predicament, and without a 1st next year, signing Monroe may well be necessary to begin to take small steps out of the morass.

I cannot believe the Suns gave Tyson Chandler $52m. Really, I am stunned. When you factor in Calderone's remaining $15m, that trade was hideously bad. They could have just told Felton to stay home.

Monroe plays defense, he's just not a shotblocker. Great rebounder and passer and him being a lefty helps too. I would be all for a combo of Monroe/Lopez/Beverly/Afflalo

At 4:03 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

He's a C. That's a big part of what they need to do.

No to Affalo.

At 4:39 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

It's not just about blocking shots it's about changing shots

At 4:48 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I want Jordan or Monroe plus Bjelica or Harris. Will trade for a guard or raid the D-league.

At 5:09 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

I definitely want Jordan. As I said I don't love Monroe, but I recognize their predicament

At 6:49 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

We'll see what happens, but Monroe is a good all around C when he plays C, even though he's not a big time rim protector.

Afflalo to the Knicks -- 2 years / 16mil -- I think this is a great value signing -- he's making less than shumpert!
