Yanks: Isiah Gilliam has Signed
According to his Twitter feed, Isiah Gilliam is a professional baseball player for the New York Yankees. As you'll recall in my draft review, I thought the signing of this switch hitting teenage power hitter would be a big determinant about the immediate success of the draft and the planning behind it. So well done, Yankees! The Yanks had a need for 18 and 19 year old impact bats and so far, they've locked up three of them in Wagner, Sands and Gilliam -- and Terrance Robertson could also add more pop as he matures. So this is a really exciting signing for the Yanks, who have a tradition of great switch hitters from Mantle, to White, to Bernie to Posada, let's hope it's a case of here we go again, cause this kid has power from both sides.

I have followed his Twitter feed and he has hinted to signing in the past so I hope he isn't messing with us LOL
Paddy O'Briens twitter hasn't been updated since he was drafted?
Good.
YF if you look at his profile on twitter it says he is a professional baseball player for the New York Yankees.

Esmil in the clubhouse. Petit sent down.
Like... why?
The creature that wouldn't leave
There also has to be a corresponding 40-man move, which I don't think has been announced.
It's like I said before, there is no bottom to how bad this team is at roster construction.
I.G. just tweeted he's Tampa bound!! Good job signing him. I still have hope that Hicks and O'Brien sign but it doesn't look to good.
The Yanks should trade Esmil for Volstad. I would like to take a flyer on Chris for sure.
They should just say good bye
Is there any indication as to whether and how much they spent over 100K on Robertson and Gilliam?
No, the Yanks aren't advertising what they have left.

Thanks, Phil -- No surprise there. Cheers & thanks for all the info and analysis! S68.
This was a roster construction/deployment loss.
They're getting down to the bottom of the barrel now, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were either/or between Gilliam and Hicks, especially as they seem to have plenty of 1B prospects now. I wouldn't be surprised if they signed Kaprielian soon and called it a day.

HOUSTON - Though Masahiro Tanaka has boiled down his rough last two outings to "mechanical" problems, one opposing team talent evaluator said it's more a problem of approach.
"He's nickel-and-diming everything and just doesn't seem to want to throw the fastball," the evaluator said. "The split is still good but teams aren't swinging at it as much, and they're teeing off on the other stuff that just isn't as sharp as we've seen."
If he doesn't want to let it rip, so to speak, he needs to go under the knife. Either give it your all, or fix the problem.
More on topic to this particular post, I'm glad to see the Yankees are signing some of their younger talent they drafted. Wish Kaprelian would hurry up and sign — don't want to lose the chance to start your career now.
I will be more excited about signings if more prospects get extended chances NOW!
Flores should be up here playing. I do like offense but that doesn't mean that Beltran and Jones' hideous defense is acceptable...but it is to this GM and manager.
Mitchell should be starting.
I really don't know what Tanaka's situation is. I agree that logically it would seem to be his elbow.
What if they want surgery and he doesn't?
Back to OPS+ Watch:
McCann: 126 (very impressive considering where he was but it has to continue near 120)
A-Rod: 151 ('nuff said)
Teix: 142 (same)
Gardner 139: (yes, he's streaky, but a .493 SLG from a hitter like him? Wow!)
Beltran 104: (not good enough with his defense)
Headley 89 (what were they thinking with that contract?)
Drew 73: (I don't care about his HR, he should not be blocking anyone)
Grego 69: (it's hard to believe he will ever hit a lot, but he has to play)
ERA+
Pineda 96
Tanaka 101
That's why they aren't better.
Warren 109: (limit his IP but he's the only starter who has been a positive surprise)
Eovaldi 82: (I think Mitchell would be better, but like Grego, he has to play)
CC 69: (how much longer?)
Nova SSS
Trade Beltran and let a kid play there.
Not that they'd do it (when is the last time they traded a veteran to make room for a young player? I can't recall), but the extra year makes that really tough.
Did trading Randy Johnson back to Arizona do that? I don't remember either.
Yeah, I guess, although he was probably cooked. Beltran is just kind of toasty.
Either way, it has been a very long time.
If they truly want to turn the page, that should be something they have to start doing (e.g., Headley when Jagielo is ready?) even if they have to eat some money.
What they cannot do is to trade the young player because of a declining old one.
I can't watch CC.
Nothing is quite so intoxicating to Goofy as s shitty veteran on a roll.
Warren's going back to the pen. Which once and for all proves this team doesn't prioritize winning. Just awful.
As I have said, they have enough pieces in the organization to be better, especially beyond this season, but it is impossible to deploy those pieces worse than they do.
There isn't another team in MLB that would take their best stater out of the rotation, or not give Mitchell and possibly Severino a shot.
I don't care what evolving nonsense Goofy says after each CC start. Every time he pitches you know he is going to lose.
He's apparently signed for $550, so there goes $450K out of their available $$$. Robertson's $$ is still a hole card. Perhaps this was disclosed in order to see if it might jar someone towards reality.
It feels like CC is holding this team hostage.
I mean, yeah, he contributed to a ring, but he isn't freakin' Jeter, and Jeter was permitted to hold this franchise hostage for too long.
I mean WTF? These guys aren't exactly playing for free or even giving discounts.
The impending trade deadline scares the shit out of me.
Saw this on another site...
Joel Sherman says C Gary Sanchez, 3B Eric Jagielo, and 1B Greg Bird are expected to be promoted to Triple-A in the coming weeks.
Gearing up for the trade deadline I am afraid.
Jageilo isn't going anywhere now thanks to the fact that he'll likely require knee surgery.
I'll post more of my thoughts on recent news when Phil makes a new Yankees topic.
A real OF could have caught that.

Hearing #Yankees are promoting OF Taylor Dugas, which would strongly suggest Beltran to the DL
