Yadier Alvarez Seeks Waiver
According to RealGM, representatives for Cuban RHP Yadier Alvarez are seeking a waiver wich would allow Yadier to sign right away and not wait for 2/7. Apparently, such waivers are available if the player can show reason. We'll see if he can get it, and if he does we'll see if the price is right or the race is wrong.

The waiver he is seeking is for his inability to register for the IFA class by the deadline. Clearly he couldn't register while in Cuba, so it would make sense that this waiver be granted but it's solely up to the commissioner. Even if he's granted the waiver, he still needs to establish residency and obtain the general license from OFAC before he can sign, so hopefully everything gets done before our ban is imposed.
He would be a top 5 pick if he were in the draft but the closer we get to the deadline, the less leverage we have because teams that are not banned for 2015 can promise him a huge bonus if he waits a few extra weeks to sign.
I just read the McDaniel transcript — just keeps becoming more and more infuriating. I hope he reveals more of what he says are "embarrassing" for the Yankees.
What is he referencing with Pittsburg and Miguel Sano? (Another player the Yankees should've signed, BTW.)
Nevermind, he later clarified:
Kiley McDaniel: You can read it different ways, but PIT could’ve had him for a number that started with 3 or 4 and refused to do it because they didn’t want to be the sucker…but they had the money and thought he was the best July 2 guy in years. You can’t be scared when you have conviction and resources.
Yep, that's the Yankees in a nutshell.
Missing out on Sano was another Hal thing. They thought they were going to get him at their price right before he went to Minny,
Btw, I updated the GCL 2 post. Drew Henson has joined the Yanks pro scouting department.
I wish you hadn't told me that about Sano, Phil.
This quote by Kiley sums it all up for us:
"George Steinbrenner would’ve never let this happen and there’s more than just undertones of the PIT/Miguel Sano fiasco with NYY/Moncada. Teams that are run well and efficiently with clear delineations of who is in charge aren’t scared they might overpay relative to the 2nd highest bid if they think the price/player line up with their internal values."
So incredibly dumb.
I hate Drew Henson being anywhere around any sports organization I like and its not because of the man but it reminds me of all the bad decisions.
Perhaps it might be good for Yankee management to be reminded of all the bad decisions. :-)
Gosuke Katoh is a prospect I'm hoping turns it around this season. Wonder if the Yankees regret not sending him to Staten Island instead of Charleston?

Katoh will turn it around. He has the walk gene.
