Yankee Stuff 11/13

Be afraid.   According to the latest news cycle, the Yanks have talked to the Angels about 31 year old, bad handed, tick above average offensively 2B Howie Kendrick.    Has gotten on base less than 34% of the time for his career, and his best season was 4 years ago and out of conext.   So what we would have here would be a prospect blocking over 30 decline guy.   I thought that was last year's thing?

WTF do they need a 2B for?

At 9:51 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

I just saw he has one year left on his contract @ $9.5m.

Even a mentally challenged GM wouldn't want to spend $10m on Prado and $9.5m on Kendrick.

So until proven otherwise, I choose to believe it's not going to happen.

Seems like smoke to me. Kiley McDaniel @ Fangraphs was at Moncada's workout and is posting some notes soon. He mentioned on twitter the Yanks were there in force, so hopefully that's a good sign.

I saw an unatrtibuted scout quote yesterday that I was pretty sure came from the Yankee Donny Rowland.

If they ask for an individual work out with him, I think they'll be in it to win it. Though he may be a second or third baseman ultimately rather than an SS.

Horrible player to go after for this season.

How many times do we hear about the Yankees "asking" about so-and-so, only to hear another source contradict it? And like 90 percent of the time, nothing happens. Doubt there's much to this story, if anything.

At 11:56 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Except they have a recent history of grabbing over 30's, and they seem to think it will get them back in the playoffs faster than relying on kids will.

Putting HK in front of the Yanks right now is like asking an alcoholic to bar tend...Sooner or later something bad is going to happen. Please resist.

Another rumor from Jim Bowden is the Yanks are going after Ethier. This is another player I'd stand clear of please..

Ugh. Hate this stuff.

It's funny (not really). George has been dead for a while, out of the loop even longer, and the Yankees are still linked to every piece of overpriced shit that is available.

And to be honest, although I wish it were otherwise, they have earned this bad rep even post George.

At 12:23 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Anyway, I am still thinking it's all nonsense. They are trying to sign Headley and they may need some leverage.

As for Ethier, come on, I am 100% sure they aren't taking this on:

2015 33 Los Angeles Dodgers $18,000,000
2016 34 Los Angeles Dodgers $18,000,000
2017 35 Los Angeles Dodgers $17,500,000
2018 36 Los Angeles Dodgers *$17,500,000 $17.5M Vesting Option, $2.5M Buyout
_

You could have Lester for "only" a few million more per year, and if they want to win now, and they do, given the fragile state of their pitching, he makes the most sense to pursue the win-now bullshit thing.

They do, but they are starved for power, and Kendricks only had 7 HR last year, only 28 over 3 years.

I have as low an opinion of Cashman as anyone, but even he can't think that an infield of Prado, Drew/Ryan/Name Him, Kendricks, and a very declined Tex are going to win anything or sell any tickets.

I guess Tomas is about to sign ? MY guess is Philly or maybe Seattle?

NoMaas has a video of Cashman. I don't know how you can watch that and not think the guy is full of self serving crap.

Even if Yanks sign Moncada I have read he needs a couple of years in the minors.

At 7:38 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

So?

This proves that Cashman was full of shit about bad breaks and he knows it:

The Yankees just became the first team since the 1991-92 Padres to finish consecutive seasons with a negative run differential yet a winning record. They are the first team ever to be minus-20 or worse and produce winning records in consecutive years (thanks, Elias Sports Bureau).
So what does it mean to have a run differential predictive of a 70-something victory team, yet win 85 and 84 games, respectively, in the last two seasons? That you are a bad team in decline or an organization whose winning culture will pump up the record?
General manager Brian Cashman said, “I believe in the Pythagorean Theory,” which uses run scored and allowed to show how many games a team should, based on historical precedent, have won. That equation showed the Yankees as a 79-win team in 2013 and 77-win team last year.

At 8:35 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Wouldn't the run diff have been better if the Yanks hadn't had injuries to guys like Beltran, Tex, Gardner and Ellsbury? And whoever else was injured?

At 8:42 AM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Yea ,Im not giving Cash a pass because he fielded an old team but with that said if there were less injuries I feel the runs would have been up.

At 9:06 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Cashmere knows he's full of it with that statement. It's all part of the propaganda campaign to make the general fan populace think this team is a contender.

Did you guys see the BYB headline story of Tulo ?

At 10:46 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Was it really unforeseeable that older players and fragile pitchers might get injuries?

Every team gets injuries, some more than others, but it's part of the game.

At 10:47 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

What's BYB?

Do they have any kind of track record of being right?

It smells like bs to me though. Big name. Jeter lover. Keep over-leveraging the present on an aging team.

So why not glom on to a rumor that fits that current franchise meme, in the hope that you will be shown to have inside sources that matter and gain some notoriety?

It would be a ridiculously risky move given that they wouldn't be trading away big contracts, but the kind of young talent they need to have any chance for sustained success.

But it would definitely fit with the stupidity of that has characterized the decline of this franchise as Stick's core got old and now retired.

Much of the media and fanbase would love it and hail Cashman as a ninja.

It would sell tickets and increase ad revenue and that's all they care about now.

I would barf though.

Sources: Anthony Bosch told investigators that agent Scott Boras tried to cover up Manny Ramirez's PED use - @Newsday

I am going to draw an admittedly strained analogy between PED usage and sports betting.

Both have been intertwined with sports for years.

Why not take a cue from the seemingly most enlightened and brightest commissioner, Adam Sliver, and his advocacy of legalized sports betting, and then extend it to PEDs.

The PED part won't happen, but it should because then it might be somewhat regulated.

LNJ I have no idea of their track record? I know them as just another Yankee site like NoMass. I do know they have a relationship with Drob peddling his High Socks for Hope merchandise.

OK, thanks.

So the supposedly impending Stanton deal nutshells the reason why the Yankees are doomed unless they stop the win-now shit and start developing.

At 3:11 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I saw that Tulo rumor yesterday. Looks like bs. Yanks need a shortstop. Over 30, broken down Tulo is available. Oh no, the Rockies want lots of top prospects for him! Sounds like BS.
