Eric Hinske Rejects Yanks
The other day the Yanks reportedly told Dave Magadan that they wanted to go in another direction in their searching or a new hitting coach. That other direction remains unclear as reports have surfaced that Cub assistant coach Eric Hinske has turned them down, choosing instead to be the Cub assistant hitting coach this year. Not sure if the Yanks should be looking for a message in this, but it's pretty clear they didn't have much of a plan, when they let Long go. I'm still hoping they hire 2 and that Rowson is one of them.
Btw, yesterday, Trey Hillman cleared something up. He was asked if he wanted to interview for Newman's job, not that he was offered the job itself. So Denbo might have gotten it anyway.

Hal will need to sell in order to right this rudderless ship. Until then the risk of sinking remains.
That said, my hunch is that Girardi has veto power over any new hire to his staff.
That would be a shame. Because I have a hunch Denbo is vetting the hitting coach candidates.
If they hire two, I think a good candidate for one of the spots would be Jason Giambi.
He's still active. Though he'd be perfect.
I don't know how Gambi would be as a coach, but as a hitter he was so all-or-nothing that I am skeptical. My memory of him is too many lunging swings with men on base, too many pop-ups and DP grounders, especially in situations where a productive out would likely lead to one or more runs for the inning.
It may just be my memory, but one of the impressions I have of the 1996-2000 team was that, if a runner got to second with no outs or third with less than two, he usually scored. We got alot of odd runs that way, runs that might keep us in a game when we were behind, or runs that might pad a lead bit by bit. My impression of the Giambi/Sheffield/ARod teams was the exact opposite. It was 3-run HR or goose egg all too often.
Giambi was a high OBP high OPS guys throughout his career.
Btw, Derek Shelton may be available, and he was Cano's first minor league coach with the Yanks.
Shelton would be great now that Maddon has opted out.
