Yanks Complete Sweep of Jays
David Phelps gave up 2 runs through a sort of inefficient 7 inning start. It was only inefficient because he threw so many balls, but it was a still a great and gritty performance. His only mistake was to Melky Cabrera, who has now become a thorn in the Yankees side. No, he's not Bernie II, but he's a good ballplayer. The Yanks were able to score a run in each of the first three innings, then tack on 3 more later in the game. It was a good thing that they kept tacking on, because Kelley gave up a two run jack to Encarnacion that hasn't landed yet in the 8th. Thornton had to come in and get the final out there. Warren got the save in the ninth and was good doing it.
The offense produced a bit but they also left a lot of men on base. Still, it was a big sweep, and they got three good starts against a team that really knows how to grind. And they finally looked like a decent home team.

I think Paul O'Neill has it right. Melky isn't the best hitter or the best fielder, but he does everything really well.
He's a free agent after the season. He is exactly what this team needs if the price is right, especially in terms of years.
We have some OF's who could be ready to help next year, and I'd just as soon leave the jobs open for them.
Phelps seems to have settled in nicely (for a fifth starter) after a rough go at it early on.
I think he can be a 4th starter or maybe even a third if he keeps improving, or a 4th who pitches like a third.
Which OF are you referring to?
