Yankees Interested in Cuban Carbonell?
According the NJ.com the Yankees are interested in speedy, powerful Cuban OF Daniel Carbonell. He is said to be 23, and 6'3" and 220. They also say he's athletic. I'm still pretty sure that this guy won't count against our International allotment, so why not? A few reasons why not are things like -- how ready is he? Because if he's 23 and can't make the majors by year's end, he's probably not going to be much more than just an athlete with a bat. So if they feel like he can come up and move and Sori to DH only, fine, but if he's not, they shouldn't spend the money, even though it won't count against any allotment.

Given the sorry state of the upper level farm system, the Yankees should use their financial advantage every time an interesting opportunity presents itself.
For a guy who doesn't project to have power when they already have Gardner and Ellsbury in their outfield? Pass.
They said he does. He's 6'3" 220. Sounds like a RF. My only concern is that he's 23, and I don't want to find out he's another Elodio Moronta, who came to baseball late an the Yanks signed as a 21 year old because he could run fast.
Tonight's game was another example of their talent deficit that forces them to rely on so many old players. They need to add talent, especially talent that doesn't require as much development. They can always trade the excess.
Although, yes, may have to trade Gardner at some point to balance the lineup.
The lack of walks has been a concern of mine for weeks.
Lack of walks was a concern when they were signing guys this offseason. I've been pleased with Solarte for taking his.
I really, really wish they had gotten Choo, for that reason.
I wanted them to get Choo for YEARS!
