Yanks Trying To Solve a Problem?
Saw an article this morning that said the coaching staff for the High A Tampa Yankees is being replaced. Now most of the replacements, Al Pedrique mgr., Danny Borrell pc, and PJ Pilitierre hc, are from last season's Charleston staff, so that means Charleston will need a new staff, too. You have to wonder if this is the result of their reviewing player development. As I've written, almost endlessly, the Yanks problem was more player development and unwillingness to splurge on amateurs when that was allowed, than their ability to draft, per se. Draft have a large element of luck involved, so the most you can really hope for any team to do is to make intelligent picks given the available information. Btw, Marcus Thames, who was the hitting coach for Tampa has been moved up to Trenton, but it seems everyone is sacked, including Luis Sojo. We'll see if they bring in more of a teaching staff for Charleston, too.
