Giants to Interview Mike Sullivan

It's official.  Mike Sullivan will return to Giant Central to interview with the team this week.  Presumably, he'll be interviewing for the vacant OC position, but who knows?  Maybe they want to ask him if he can fix Eli, then either get rid of Ryan or move him back to WR's.   When TC first took over it was unclear if Gilbride or Hufnagle would be OC, but they had to make it Hugnagle because he could only leave the Pats for a promotion.   Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that he will be the OC just because he's coming in to talk.

Of course, if he is the new OC, what will we be getting?  First, we'll be getting a guy who Eli knows, likes and respects, and more importantly a guy who knows Eli's mechanics and where they need to be.   This is actually an important issue for the Giants.   Here's why: it would really benefit the Giants CAP situation to restructure and extend Eli this offseason.  They will probably feel a lot more comfortable doing so if they have a guy on hand who can fix Eli.  So that's probably a big part of the interest.

When he was here originally. he was considered by some the heir apparent.   He left and had one really good year at Tampa and then a bad year, when everyone who had contributed to the good year was hurt.  So let's hope that if he's the guy he has ideas for getting the O back on track, notwithstanding the OL, which has to be rebuilt by the organization.   Hopefully, he would also bring a burst of energy, and better play calling.  Maybe, I should just say different play calling.  We got a little stale under KG over the past two years.

Because, what the O really needs, more than a different scheme, is a rebuilt O, a high end receiver if they lose Nicks, a playmaking TE, and a new thunder back, who can carry the load if David Wilson isn't back.   If the Giants don't make those adjustments, it won't matter who the OC is.

Anyway, I'm not totally uncomfortable with the idea of Sullivan coming back and being the heir apparent.   We have a crazy team that either falters or wins it all,  and I'd like that to continue after TC  rides off into the sunset.
