New York Giants Rookie Mini-Camp Thoughts
One guy who could really stand out or be released right off the bat is jumbo WR Marcus Davis out of Virginia Tech. Now Davis has everything you are looking for in a wide receiver including, size and speed and strong YPC averages. He was a HS QB, and coaches tend to favor those kind of guys. But there was a reason Marcus wasn't drafted, and it's that he has trouble catching the football. Readers of the blog can probably recall me railing about body-catchers while praising hand catchers -- well this guy is neither! However, the Giants did apparently give him more than any of the other UDFA's got to come to camp. And in Tom Coughlin they have a sort of legendary WR guru who probably has some drills for a guy like Davis. So since they have a big arm in Nassib and there's basically no touching allowed, this guy should get opportunities. Of course he had endess ones at Va Tech, but we'll see if he turns in on for the Giants. He has the talent to be another undrafted gem, and Eli likes big receivers. Or he can be a guy who doesn't even make it to the next mini-camp.
It's unclear how many guys will be there on a tryout basis. And we probably won't know who's being signed and cut till Sunday. Should be interesting, because they will have an actual QB prospect there.

Carr better watch out! I think Nassib is the real deal, and could challenge for the backup role. my guess though is he starts as the 3rd Qb
Saw all of Tech's games this year. I don't think his hands are quite as bad as you're making them out to be, in fact they're pretty good (he'll body catch when he's about to get popped though). His was more of a lousy quarterback problem than a hands thing in regard to balls left on the turf. His real problem is not always finishing blocks and not always running hard through routes especially when he's not at the top of the tree. Mr. Coughlin may have a cure for that problem. This kid is a big talent and it wouldn't stun me if we're still talking about him in August or if he turns out to be 1 of 53 still wearing blue in September.
Got a funny feeling Cruz may suddenly feel a bit more like 'getting to yes' once he gets a look at this guy (only half kidding).

Thanks for the scouting update. I've seen him several times, but not every time as you have. TC just won't tolerate the non-blocking or not running out routes. Ask Barden. Fortunately TC has a track record of teaching WR's how to be willing and effective blockers. So maybe Marcus has a greater chance than my report would lead us to believe.

Ahh only reason I had asked is b/c Jenkins had left then got a deal.. I do think we need an upgrade on our return games as Wilson cannot be the primary return man.
So much for that. Waived today I think. Think I'll stick to my day job. Thanks again Phil.
