Ranger Offseason Begins

Okay, without Callahan and with so many inexperienced kids on the roster, I felt we were a year ahead of making any noise in the playoffs. And we apparently were. Don't lose sight of how close most of these games actually were or how that homegrown defense is coming along. There is more D coming from the system and some scoring, two. The Rangers will become elite in the next two years if they keep drafting well and make a good trade or two. If they have an opportunity to trade Marian Gaborik in the next few months, and can get an even better package than they got for Gomez two years ago, they should take it. Going into the the draft, they have 3 top 60 picks, and could use them to move up for a player they love, or move back and collect more in this red chip heavy draft. The Rangers have some things they can do to create cap room, and the cap is going up again. Don't be surprised if the Rangers sign Brad Richards, or even trade for Paul Stastny (that would probably include Gaborik. As tough as these playoffs were, the Rangers are on the right track, but they have to keep drafting well, make a good trade or two. We'll talk about it here. Go Rangers!

very well spoken Phil! The Rangers are on the right track, and need to continue to be prudent with the moves. Hopefully Kreider changes his mind. No question we need to upgrade the offensive talent, and get at least 2 legitimate offensive stars.. We have the depth, and the resources it's up to Sather to use them wisely. I don't think this season was a waste at all. As Pierre said at the end of the game things are looking up for the Rangers, and I agree!

I agree that the arrow is pointing straight up. We just have to be smart. We are gonna have a lockdown D that doesn't have to trap and keeps getting better, we just need them to keep growing up together And we have to find some scoring chemistry between the offensive kids we have both with the Rangers and down on the farm.

Having seen the Whale play a number of times the past few years I could not agree more. Valentenko, Grachev are just a couple of the many that could have a contribution going forward. I love V-Tank's point shot and towards the latter part of the season Grachev really started to show some more agression. I think Zuke is definitely more then just a shoot-out specialist. The main key as you said is to get some offensive talent. I would rather not get Richards myself, and make a prudent trade for Statsny or someone of that ilk. I think Gaborik needs a change of scenery, as I never get the sense he and Torts were on the same page. For the first time in awhile we have something to look forward to in Ranger land!!!

I think Gaborik would have thrived under the old coach, who liked to designate scoring, but Torts preaches that two way, team thing, so we need guys who are more comfortable and productive in those conditions. I agree we need Statsny or a Statsny type more than a Richards.

Richards concussion, and potential deal, and age are amongst the big negatives. I don't mind adding a vet or two as all teams need them, but he is not the vet I want here. I would be more in favor of Iginla. Let Toronto overpay him. Zip on his twitter seems to be intimating Avery is a goner, which he has done before.. To me if so a good first step. Avery brings a very limited skill set to the table, and needs to be part of the cleaning up process along with Prospal/Drury/Fed/Christensen

Just about all the kids we have are just as scrappy as Avery without the baggage. It's an exciting time to be a Ranger.

Along with no baggage, they have better contracts, and have far more upside then Avery!

could not agree more. If some of them go in a trade which seem likely, let's make sure it's the right ones and not too many of them, and that we get the right return for them.
