What a Day!
So, the Red Sox have signed Lackey. The Angels appear to be close on a deal for Matsui. Apparently Roy Halladay will be traded to the Phillies, while Cliff Lee is traded to the Mariners and prospects are traded to the Blue Jays. Okay, so the big pitchers seem to be gone and the Yanks don't have a perfect fit for the #5 hole in their line-up.
I think it's time for the Yanks to consider a creative deal for Matt Holliday. Here's a couple of reasons why. First, Holliday is a better player than any of next year's free agent LF's. Second, with the trade of Austin Jackson, the Yanks are now a couple of years, at least, from producing a Yankee type OF from their system. Third, he's a much better defensive player than Johnny Damon. Fourth, he is also a better offensive player than Johnny Damon. Fifth he is also a healthier player than Johnny Damon. Finally, and we all know this, he is a perfect fit for the Yanks.
Apparently, the Halladay to the Phillies/Lee to the Mariners/prospects to the Jays deal has been agreed to do.
Now the only pitchers left carry risk, and we have a lot of pitching depth as it is. Of course, if Cash can trade for a good hitter who can play left, that would be cool, too, but we might as well keep the farm for now. Go Yanks!
UPDATE: Juan Rivera is now being traded to the Braves for Derek Lowe.
UPDATE: Red Sox have agreed with Mike Cameron on a 2 year deal worth 15.5M. So Bay is gone.

Holliday makes more sense now, Seattle especially if they get Bay are going to be really good.
I'm in.
Holliday is an upgrade over Damon, and is on the right side of 30. As Phil says we don't have anyone ready for a few years. I hope Cash swoops in.
Not signing Holliday would be incredibly foolish.

Clearly the Yanks were waiting to see what happened with Halladay. Now, with him gone, Holliday just makes too much sense.
Cameron may be close to signing with the RS.
I'm fine wit signing Holliday, but I don't think it's going to happen.
It's making too much sense right now. If all we do is bring back Damon, we'll be a worse team nexy year. We lost a 130 OPS+ bat when Matsui left today.
I don't want Damon back at any price.
Again, I think it would be great to sign Holliday, but I don't think they want to add another long term contract. Then again, I'm wrong a lot, like buying the stock my broker recommended on Friday.
btw. What's up with the Angels? They either know something about Lackey's health, or they got stupid. Lowe? Seriously?
Since we're not gonna get a chance at Halladay with an extension, we probably can put out 1 more long term contract since the free agent OF's next year aren't as good as Holliday and we're a few years away from producing a Yankee type OF.
I hope Cash agrees.
btw, According to Davidoff, the Yankees are his first choice.
Matsui to the Angels is official.
Holliday is the proper counter. Do it Cash.
Holliday not only wants the Yanks, but he's buddies with Tex.
He should get a personal communication to Cash/Levine/Hal and make his wishes known.
I fully expect Sheets/Holliday here by X-Mas eve.
Phil,
Davidoff may have said "Nope" to you on Holliday, but he said the same thing a year ago about the Yankees signing Teix.
Adam Dunn for DH.
We need that LH power for YS and protect A-Rod.
Rich, I know. I said nope to him on Montero for Halladay. I was right. He probably isn't.
There's a report that the Cards are offering Holliday 8 year at 16M. I don't think we'll compete with that.
Nope, but I would make an offer of 5 years at $20m per to see how much he wants to play here.
If Chapman is impressive, they need to sign him.
