Lackey to Boston?
So Ed Price has heard from a source that Jon Lackey might be headed to Boston for a physical. So what does this mean for the Yanks? Nothing good. First, if Boston signs Lackey, we have one less option for the rotation and will have to match him up against Andy fourteen times or whatever next season. Second, if Boston gets Lackey, they can then throw Bucholz into a trade for AGone or Miggy. Third, it could cause an overreaction by the Yanks that could lead to them giving up Montero and others for Roy Halladay. See? Nothing good. The hope here is that the Yanks would realize that the Sox would be out of the Halladay market (presumably) and just continue to wait out the market with Sheets as a nice fallback option. It's getting interesting.
UPDATE: This is now confirmed. Lackey's deal will be similar to AJ's Burnett's.

I think the Yankees will sign Sheets if his medical reports are good.
So do I, and I think he'll be good. Now we need more O.
If Boston gets Lackey and either AGone or Miggy, it will be necessary for the Yanks to make one more significant move. I like Sheets but his history doesn't include pitching complete seasons. I want Halladay but I do not want to give up Montero. If the Jays will not accept less from the Yanks, then sign Holliday and take your chances with Sheets.
They could sign Holliday. Apart from that, I'm not sure what significant move is out there, without trading multi-prospects.
Cash will make the prudent move
Boston will be out of the Halladay market, and I think we will be in on Holliday.
I don't think the Yankees will sign Holliday.
I agree w Phil we need more O, and he is a position of need. Whether or not we get him is another story, I think our interest level just went up.
The problem with signing Holliday is that it's yet another long-term contract for a player you will likely be overpaying during his decline phase.
I think they'd give him four years, maybe five, but I don't think that will get it done.
I don't think we'll sign Holliday, either.
If not Holliday, then who? Damon is pricing himself out of our range, and if he walks a trade of some sort will have to be made, too much offense to be losing..
Doc is in Philly so reports say
new thread.
