Aroldis Day

Today is the day that Aroldis Chapman, who would not throw a bullpen when he visited Yankee stadium at the end of October, will throw a bulllpen with as many as 12 teams on hand in Houston. At one point, the Yankees were highly interested in the Cuban fireballer, but it seems their interest has waned over the past 6 weeks or so. We'll see if Chapman can reignite their interet later today.

In other Yankee news, the Yanks have reached out to the agent for free agent LF Jason Bay. This seems like a move designed to put pressure on Johnny Damon. Bay is a righty pulll hitter, who, like Damon is a poor defender in left. Though the Cards have leaked a "huge" offer to should be Yankee target Matt Holliday, it's unclear how it would be structured and how much would be guaranteed. The Yanks really need to be lurking on Holliday. They do need another big bat or two, and Johnny Damon would be a suboptimal fit at this point.

UPDATE: Chapman threw today in front of 15 teams. He hit 96 on the gun and showed a slider and a change. Nothing not to like about that.

after losing Matsui, Holliday is the only choice to replace the production. A part time Damon will not cut it. Speaking of Johnny he is hosting WWE Raw next Monday night.

Even with Granderson, I feel like we have taken a step back without another significant move. Holliday is the top choice but it sounds like St.Louis made a very nice offer. I hope Cash does not trip after last year's success.

I feel like people are underestimating our own team right now. If we retain Damon we improve our outfield from last year, yes we lost our productive DH, but the lost production at DH from Matsui to say Miranda could be supplemented by the the development of Hughes and Joba. I know it is not ideal going into a season with those two being such an important part to our teams success, but I still figure the yanks to sign a guy like Sheets as well as I would look at Vlad Guerrero as a full time DH. He can potentially provide a better bat than Matsui and offers a strong arm in the outfield if he needs to play there once in a while

I think Holliday would have to offer the Yankees a discount of some sort to get a deal done.

I don't want Damon back, and I will be pissed if it's for more than one year.

FWIW, Heyman says the Yankees offered Montero (not Hughes or Joba) for Halladay.

Heyman is misinformed. If that was leaked it was so Phil and Joba don't know which one was offered.

So they did offer Montero?
