The Mobley Contract

Earlier in the year, many of us were bummed that the Knicks were not able to get any cap relief from the League given that Mobley had a heart condition and was forced to retire. But really, what we got was better: the Mobley deal may now be our greatest tradeable asset. First, it's a 9.5 Million dollar expiring contract. Second, and this is the key, 7M is covered by insurance, so combined with the 3M max the Knicks can send a team in any deal, they have 10M in combined space and money they can deal, if they want to move up or buy a pick or two.

What's more, they have 4 million in trade exceptions that are tradeable as well as expiring contracts for Hughes, Harrington, Duhon and QRich. Further, after the draft Nate and Lee will be sign and tradeable.

This is by far the most well equipped the Knicks have been for the offseason in the cap era. Walsh is starting the remind me of George Young, the crazy like a fox GM of the Giants back in the `80's. Go Knicks!
