Yanks Make Pitch To Burnett

According to his agent, the Yankee's apparently have made an offer to Blue Jay free agent pitcher, AJ Burnett. The terms are unknown, but we can assume it's more than the Blue Jays were offering, and that the Yankees will be paying for stuff rather than past performance. Burnett is a bit a boom or bust gamble for the Yanks, as he does have an extensive injury history and even in his healthy years, his era+'s have never reflected the outrageous quality of his stuff. It is unclear whether or not the Yankees have also made their offer to Derek Lowe.

It's pretty neutral to me. We need a pitcher, he's a pitcher. We need strikeouts, he gets strikeouts. We won't be asking him to be a #1, maybe not even a #2. He produces a lot of bad contact grounders, too. It could work out well, and if he's on the shelf it only creates opportunities for kids. That said, Lowe has been a better pitcher lately.

but if hes on the shelf its also a waste of 16 million a year...thats why i think its safer to offer lowe...4 years 52-56 mill

Who's to say they aren't also doing that? The new stadium and new food company and success of the Yes Network have made those contracts chicken feed to the Yanks. The only reason Cash wants to keep the budget down is for appearances.

What I'm saying is they probably are making an offer like that to Lowe. Seems like he wants to go to Boston, though. But in any event I wouldn't rule out all three coming to the Yanks and I think they are using Mike Mussina's "waffling" to encourage the three of them to decide soon.
