Torre Turns Down Yanks Offer!

Wow, in a stunning turn of events, it now appears that Joe Torre won't be back! The 67 year old has apparently turned down the Yanks offer of 1 year with an option for 2009. Cashman now on saying, they will undertake a full search for a new manager! Wow! I guess we'll just have to see where this goes! I'm not one who believes this will effect our retention of our own free agents. Things just got more interesting in Yankee Land!

Olney is reporting Hillman in serious talks with the Royals.

I cant wait till we suck next year...but its cool you yankee fans got what you wanted and now were gonna suffer

I never wanted Joe to leave myself, but you knew something like this would happen. Randy Levine is arrogant and has no clue, just like most of the f/o minus Cash Damon and Stick.

dan, get a grip.

everyone wants Don Mattingly...they're gonna get him...and then will see how much the fans miss torre

seriously, get a grip. Mattingly, or whoever, is gonna have outstanding starting pitching next year and the Yanks will make the playoffs again. It will be weird without Torre, but no more weird than it was when Torre replaced Buck after he made the playoffs.

While his in game decisions may have annoyed some, Torre knows how to manage people. We will see if Mattingly if its him can do that. Levine's edict is ALCS or else, and that's why I dont think it will be Mattingly b/c they wont want to fire him and deal with the outrage.

Francesa made an excellent point since Levine came on what have we won? I think he is the one that should be leaving personally.

Fatcessa doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. Levine has had very little effect on what players have been on the Yanks and no effect on what's gone on in the games.

Levine was there to get the new stadium and that's what he's done. He's not the one who left the infield pulled in against the fricking D-backs. He's not the one who left Weaver in for two against the Marlins. He's not the one who pitched Tom Gordon with a 9 run lead against the Sox in `04. He's not the one who didn't get the game stopped during the bug infestation this past year. That was all done by Torre and only Torre and has much more to do with why the Yanks haven't won since 2000 than Levine's presence or absence has.

All fair points Phil, Levine did not make those managerial moves. Joe won the WS 33% of his tenure made the WS 50% of his tenure and the post-season 100% of his tenure. I find it hard pressed that another manager will have that kind of success here or anywhere. Many dislike Joe, but his record speaks for itself. We cannot win it every year. I for one think the way this whole thing went down was classless by the Yanks who should have given Joe better. If they knew this was the plan, why let Joe sit this long?

Joe has had the best roster in baseball for 100% of his time in New York. Gene Michael and Buck Showalter built the Yankee dynasty and Joe got all the credit.

He should have won more with the teams he was given and the post season positions he was presented with.

The word from the Yanks is that they really DID want Torre back for a year or two.

At 1:14 PM, Blogger Michael said...

The fact that Wang spit the bit vs Cleveland, and the fact that our bats have gone into a slumber these past three postseasons is not Joe's fault. The f/o forcing Sheffield at 1st was a square peg in a round hole. Did Joe trade for Kevin Brown or Jeff Weaver? Joe's job is to win games and he has to go with whom he thinks gives him the best shot.

Leaving Joba out there during the biblical swarm was on Joe. We lost that game cause he sat on his ass.

At 1:16 PM, Blogger Michael said...

The question is whom from the Yanks really wanted him back. Joe only mentioned Cashman by name. supposedly NYYfans.com is reporting that Bowa is going to Seattle.

The Yanks wanted him back.

I totally agree with you, about Stick and Buck. With George gone they setup the foundation for the dynasty. Stick made one of the best trades ever when he got O'neill for Kelly.

Torre won 4 titles with Buck's team.

At 1:18 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Joe should have gone and gotten Joba earlier and pulled the team off the field I will agree with you on those points.

The players were in place for Joe no debate. I just do not want to minimize what he has accomplished, as some may want to.

At 1:20 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

He's accomplished basically nothing since he left in the infield pulled in against the D-backs.

At 2:00 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Phil do you just dislike Joe that much?

At 2:00 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I am not saying that we wont be fine with another manager it just seems everyone wants to blame him for our failures. He has had his moments, but our bats going quiet and not getting the pitching we need is also a big factor.

At 2:00 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I like Torre, I just think he's a bad game manager who cost us some titles.

At 2:02 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think our bats would go quiet in the postseason cause Torre didn't get his guys in the right mindset.

At 2:07 PM, Blogger Michael said...

I don't disagree with you Phil, I think that Joe's in game managing leaves something to be desired at times.
