Life

Life is a new show on NBC about a cop who was sent up for Life for kiling his wife, his son and some guy, then exonerated only to go back on the "job." So far, it's a pretty average police procedural. The twist being that our hero, who did time, has heightened police instincts from having done that time. He's also feverishly trying to find the real killer in his spare time. This one's gonna depend on cast chemistry which is rarely identifiable in a police pilot. There is a weird NBC dynamic in this one where the lead actor, like the lead actor in Journeyman sort of looks like Steve McQueen. This is sort of like that trend they had a few years ago when everyone looked like "Ed." Not sure how casting works over there, but it sure seems to run to types. I'm not up or down on this show. I'll give it a few tries to see if the chemistry blossoms.

UPDATE: I ended up liking this afterall. Detective Cruz is good and quirky and he's got the Thousand Yard Stare down pat. I actually think this one's gonna work. So far, I like both of the new NBC 10pm shows I've seen. This and Journeyman, though both stars kind of look like Steve McQueen nearly 40 years after peak relevance.
