My Greatest 100 (or so) Albums...
Are You Experienced (1967) Axis: Bold as Love (1967) Jimi Hendrix. Aside from being an insanely great guitarist, Jimi Hendrix was a great album artist as his first two discs, both from `67 reveal to us. Jimi was creative and could either write or basically rewrite a song to fit whatever he was feeling. As much as he was a brilliant guitarist, he was a genius of feel. Having played with Little Richard and The Isley Brothers in the past, when Jimi decided to put together his own band, The Experience, he added English musicians Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. Here are the two albums he released in 1967. Are You... had the bigger "hits" but I swear Axis is just as good.
"Purple Haze" – 2:46
"Manic Depression" – 3:30
"Hey Joe" (Billy Roberts) - 3:23
"Love or Confusion" – 3:15
"May This Be Love" – 2:55
"I Don't Live Today" – 3:55

and Axis...

"Spanish Castle Magic" – 3:00
"Wait Until Tomorrow" – 3:00

"Little Wing" – 2:24
"If 6 Was 9" – 5:32
"You Got Me Floatin'" – 2:45

I got tickets to watch a taping of the Dick Cavett Show when I was a kid, and who was a guest? Jimi Hendrix. We snuck down (with the usher's permission) to the first row. He played one song, got sick, and went home.
