My Greatest 100 (or so) Albums...

My Prerogative (1988) Bobby Brown. In the late `80's guys like Bobby Brown and Teddy Riley were developing the awesomely named and terrifically sounding New Jack Swing which was a marriage of hip hop and older soul and r&b forms. My Prerogative was the breakout album for the style and for Bobby who had quit The New Edition to find his own way. Songs like My Prerogative, Don't Be Cruel and the sublime Every Little Step still sound great. Everything seemed possible for Bobby when this came out, and it's unfortunate that things got so off track. When he was at his best, he made great records and was an absolutely electrifying performer. I know he's trying to come back now and I wish him luck.
