My Greatest 100 (or so) Albums...

Appetite for Destruction (1988) Guns and Roses. America hadn't produced a good old hard rock band that didn't sound like tinny AM radio crap (read: all those hair bands) since Aerosmith. I think what had happened was that a lot of our most creative musicians had been repulsed by the excesses of the `70's and gone about making alternative music. Not these guys, God bless `em. They made a hard rock ablum that didn't smack of self-parody and truly rocked. Welcome to the Jungle was a rare debut anthem. Not many bands or artists should even be allowed to attempt anthems, yet here they were kicking off with one. Well done, men. I wish the road and the drugs and the egos hadn't done them in. They made a case for hard rock that was hard to deny.
