More Yanks

The Yanks have declined Mike Mussina's 17M option for next year. They're interested in keeping him but not at that price. This is obviously the right move, and hopefully they can get something sane worked out with Moose. Not only did he have a good regular season (though he did need time off his arm) but he's also good with young pitchers - he showed Phil Hughes a new curveball grip last spring and now he's PHIL HUGHES - and the Yanks will be bringing up several of them over the next year or two.

Let's see what happens here. Obviously starting pitching is the big issue for the Yanks this offseason and up to the trade deadline (remember, you have all that time to get a playoff starter). It's important that the Yanks don't do anything stupid - and they haven't since Cashman's power was solidified. They need to be especially patient and picky. They have starters, including Hughes and Tyler Clippard, who will be ready over the next year or so. Blocking them would not be cost effective...
