In 39 and 40 the Yanks Reaffirmed the Themes of their Draft

In the 40th the Yanks just took LHP Jack Garbrick out of Phil Simms' old schoo, Morehead State, after taking lefty slugging 1B Jake Farrell out of Northeastern.  If all these lefties sign, the competition at first and on the mound will be intense. In the sense that they went back to taking lefty hitters and pitchers, it was a throw back draft.  In the sense that the balance between collegiate kids and preps for the first 30 rounds was way about of kilter - something like 28-3.  So, we'll see what the method was as the signing period now begins.

And as I reming you every year, in the next week or so, some of our past picks and IFA's will be released and have to find new teams or end their careers. So take a moment to think of them.  Also, not every draft pick has to become a Yankee regular. Look at PJ Pillittere, and others who find all sorts of ways to keep helping the Yanks in careers that last far beyond those of big league players.  It's a great game and it tends to take care of its own.

Kendrys Morales, cleanup hitter. Yay for the analytics guys who make in-game decisions.

It would be nice if the starters could not choose to suck all at the same time.

Gardner plays every damn day.

And Holder is still coming in during close games. Like, what else do they need to see to realize he isn’t to be trusted in high-leverage situations?

This loss pisses me off. So much dead weight on this roster with no attempt to improve it. What do they see in Green, Cessa (who despite early positive signs is still bad) and Holder that the rest of us don’t?

Cessa and Morales suck; Gardner is not an every day player but they pretend that he is. It’s a disgrace.

Estrada has been really good yet Morales continues to play. And we’re supposed to think they know what they’re doing?

“In the 20th round, Jack was obviously the best player on the board. I know his deep commitment to Vanderbilt, but there’s always a percentage chance that something could happen. As minute as it is, it’s there. Vanderbilt is the most likely scenario, though. At that point, it becomes a balancing act. You know you’re probably not going to be able to get him signed in those rounds, so why use the pick? In the 20th round, I’m weighing my odds there; that less-than-1% chance or those relationships, they’re worth it at that point. Jack is going to be a Draft-eligible sophomore in two years, and the idea that the Yankees will have been a big part of his graduating from high school and moving on, it could help us out with information at that point, access to him at that point, stuff like that. There’s a time where there are relationships that are built through some of this.”
