Yanks: Zoilo Re-Called, Francis DFA'd

Zoilo Almonte was recalled today, presumably to form a RF platoon with Ichiro.   He should hit some homers, but his overall OBP is week, if they keep him in the proper platoon, he should be okay. I don't know why they had to DFA Francis since Zoilo was already on the 40.  Now they should have an opening on the 40.

I would guess that they are going to trade for some OF (hopefully a salary dump like Headley and McCarthy), but until then, they have nothing to lose by playing Almonte every day. Ich only hits LHP and Almonte is better batting RH, right?

I want them to get Castillo.

Yeah, I messed that up. v. RH, not batting RH.

I would think Castillo would spend a little time in the minors. If so, unless they are upgrading at 2B, which they could probably do by picking someone out of the phonebook, I think they will get a ML OF upgrade. It's just the way they do things.

Two Yankees farmhands cracked the top 100: RHP Luis Severino
is 70th and C Gary Sanchez is 76th. “If Severino continues to fill the strike zone with three quality pitches, he’ll continue to accelerate his timetable,” said the write-up, which also said Sanchez’s bat “would make him a valuable Major Leaguer, even if he had to change positions, but he has star potential as a catcher.” As with all MLB.com lists, the write-ups include scouting reports/grades and video, and it’s all free.

The Yankees would be wise to let these guys develop and see what they have instead of trading them for more band-aids.

It will turn out in a few years, that we had more than 2 of the real top 100 in our system at this time.

Phil,

I feel the same way. I think the likes of Banuelos, Judge, Clarkin, Jagielo, Refsnyder and Cave have the potential to be solid to above-average major league starters.

I think those and few other guys, including from the this months IFA's.

Zoilo has decent numbers. Should help a little. Was hoping refsnyder would get a chance at RF too.

I agree there are a lot of talented guys. The question is how many will remain Yankees? We will find out over time

Gary Sanchez has homered tonight.

Mark Payton has also homered today. He's killing low A, and should probably be in Tampa.

Aaron Judge walked 4 times tonight.

I hope this is a sign of a philosophy change in the Cuban market. as you said Phil after passing on Chapman and Cespedes we have missed out on some talent, Since we punt our picks like Paul Mcjulien we really need to not lose out on Castillo an re-emerge in all areas of IFA
