Yanks Should Call Up Kyle Roller

There's a lot of buzz about Kendry Morales and the only reason he's not signed now and won't be till after the draft is that no one wants to spend a draft pick on him -- and that's after teams have spent picks on some pretty sketchy FA's.   The Yanks actually have a better option down in AAA.   It's Kyle Roller.   Roller is a 1B the Yanks took out of ECU in the 8th round of the 2010 draft.  Unlike Pete O'Brien, Roller is an on base machine to go along with his prodigious power.  I think he had a top 5 OBP in college back in 2010 and he's kept it going.   Kyle's a lefty and his power will probably play up at the stadium.   He was a college pick, so he's already 26 and entering his prime.  Because of his on base skills, it should be a very safe move to call him up an play him if Tex can't go.   Oh, and it's worlds cheaper than signing Kendrys Morales would be.

Roller has a little pop but not much more and is an avg to below avg. defensive 1st baseman organizational fodder.

OBP says different.

Of course, Roller should be given a shot. That's why I asked about him the other day.

But...

Heyman reports that Hal now is interested in Morales. Other reports have a quote from Cashman that he is looking for pitching but hasn't found a deal yet. We know that he will find one eventually, and that the only question is which prospects (I am fearing Murphy or Sanchez) the non-ninja gives up. And it's only an issue because he has failed at development. So why should he continually get to exacerbate his ongoing mistakes by sacrificing what might be some of his few successes in the future?

I would really like to be bullish on the farm, but it's hard when a win-now/rely on older players/development is for other organizations mentality is cemented into their psyche.

I so want to be wrong.

I admire your optimism, and I try to be so when I think there is a case for it, like the Giants at this point.

The Yankees? Nope.

That doesn't mean they can't win. It just means so much has to go right that likely won't.

We have seen that this year with CC, Beltran, Pineda...a pathetic infield.

Nova is in a different category. If you develop enough Nova-types, some will make it and be fine. That's the key to success.

I'm not very optimistic about the Yanks at all. They are at a crossroads.

Here's another way to look at Roller? They need a 1B. Do they have a better alternative at hand? No. End of inquiry.

I wish some of you anon guys would assume handles so I can have an idea who I'm walking with or responding to.

You would do better trading for Mike Jacobs then bringing up Roller who is thick and slow around the bag,

It's first base. We've won with thick and slow there a lot.
