GCL Yanks are Champs!

Dante Bichette and the GCL Yankees just took game three and the Championship over the GCL Marlins in the Gulf Coast League final. Dante homered to tie the game early, then doubled and sacrificed later. Duran got a hit then scored to make it 3-1 in the 9th and that was the final. Muriel Checo got the win and he has come a long way this season. Morton had a big year on the mound, but the rest of the pitching was a little inconsistent. What wasn't inconsistent was the GCL Yankee offense, which was the best I can ever remember them having in the GCL. Even after Tyler Austin got promoted and Ravel Santana got injured, they kept chugging.

I wonder if any of them will be promoted for the rest of the season. If not, we'll see them next in instructs. But congrats to a great group of kids.

Methinks Bichette is a keeper in the long run.

I hope Girardi stays true to what he said earlier today RE: actually playing Montero. And next season is put-up-or-shut-up time for Phil Hughes. It's sad how two of the Yankees' top prospects have been completely derailed by injuries.

“I can’t stand playing a nine-inning game in four hours. It’s not baseball. I don’t even know how to describe it. If I was a fan, why would I want to come watch people sitting around and talking back and forth, going to the mound, 2-0 sliders in the dirt? Four-hour games can’t be fun for a fan, either.” -Mark Teixeira

Am I the only one who has a problem with these quotes, especially in light of the fact that Teixeira has yet to do ANYTHING against Boston all season? If the Yankees could find a willing trade partner and eat some of the salary, I wouldn't mind sending him packing.
