Peter Abraham is reporting that the Stros are close to dealing for Jon Garland, and that Brian Cashman may have recently spoken to Andy. If the Astros do acquire Garland, I'd tend to assume Andy's on his way back home.
Let me get this straight: Cash was reportedly given authorization to sign Lilly and Pettitte. He rightly passed on Lilly; I suspect that if Houston gives Pettitte a two year deal that he will accept it.
I realize that NY Sports Dog is a shaky site, but assuming arguendo that their report that the Mets will likely sign Zito for $78.5 millon over five years (with a sixth year option), if it turns out that Pettitte is not coming here, Cashman is making a mistake by not attempting to sign Zito.
Good young pitchers almost never become free agents. What's more, Andy can be had for a 1 or 2 year deal, that won't block the young pitchers we have coming up.

It makes more sense than giving Igawa even $1.
Didn't we as an organization decide that signing up old pitchers was a bad idea? this sux.
