More Yanks

The Yanks have gotten pitching richer by trading Gary Sheffield to the Detroit Tigers for top prospect Humberto Sanchez and a-ball pitchers Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett. I'll have more on the propects later, but Sanchez is huge and has great stuff. In Cashmoney i trust, and I have to think Nardi Contreras and the Yankee minor league bird dogs probably liked the other two pitchers as well. I haven't heard the Yanks threw any money into this, so, it looks like a good deal from a financial perspective, too.

Keith Law: "He likes the deal for the Yankees because of the number of high quality arms that dramatically improve the quality of the Yankees' farm system."

On another note, ESPN.com has a report that the R. Sox may have made the top bid for Matsuzaka.

The Yankee farm system was already dramatically improved over the last few years. So, that was a backhanded compliment. They sure do add to the system, but are completely congruent to what the Yanks have been working on down there. I'll be mildly surprised if the Sox have the high bid.
