It seems to me that he has always tried to capture the ineffable male/female dynamic that appeared to come so easily to Howard Hawks. Anyone who says it's effable is snowing you. He made two movies after he was sort of the flavor of the early `70's called "They All Laughed" and "The Thing Called Love" where he got kind of close. He also made a great flick before he went super nova called, "Targets." A very interesting film buff.
